Three candidates seeking to represent the 24th District in Congress squared off in a live debate inside the KSBY studios on Sunday.

California’s 14th Congressional District includes Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Northern Ventura Counties.

The candidates are incumbent Democrat Salud Carbajal and Republicans Justin Fareed and Michael Erin Woody.

They tackled topics including gun control, immigration, and the closure of Diablo Canyon.

"No longer can we afford to have sanctuary city policies in place that prevent our federal law enforcement from doing their job," said Woody. "No longer should we be using federal tax dollars for a failing high-speed rail system that was supposed to pay for itself, and no longer can we neglect our failing infrastructure."

"We know the Diablo Canyon facility is going to be closing and I’ve been working hard to bring more jobs to our area in the renewable energy sector, to incentivize businesses to create more jobs and invest in our area so we can mitigate those economic impacts," said Rep. Salud Carbajal.

"It’s necessary that we address critical issues like our highway infrastructure and water, we need to bring solutions to these problems to the table and I’ve got a plan for them," said Justin Fareed. "Lastly, our crime and public safety has to be a top issue that our representatives and our public servants bring forward."
