Old cars get new use as Santa Maria Fire trains for disasters

Posted

The Santa Maria Fire Department utilized old parts for a new training Friday.

Fire crews went all out for this drill, by bringing in some donated cars to simulate a "mass casualty incident."

The department has a few new employees that needed the experience.

"We set up a pretty aggressive scenario for these guys and our goal ultimately is to give a very in-depth and very dramatic incident," said Capt. Kyle Dodds.

The drill occurred behind Station No. 2 for a more, controlled setting, and fire officials believed it would be less likely to alarm any residents.
