Beaches in Goleta will remain closed through the Memorial Day weekend.
Santa Barbara County Environmental Health Services tested the ocean water this week, finding Goleta Beach and Hammond’s Beach contained bacterial levels exceeding health standards.
The firm Geosyntec was hired by the County of Santa Barbara to help clean the waters of Goleta Beach.
The beaches have been closed since Jan. 11 due to heightened levels of bacteria such as coliform and fecal coliform.
Signs are posted outside of the beaches, warning the public to stay clear.
Ocean waters are tested weekly and results are available online.
