Firefighters will conduct pile burns in the Monterey pine forest of Hearst San Simeon State Park this week.
The prescribed burns will begin Wednesday, May 30 and continue through Sunday, June 3 near the intersection of Highway 1 and San Simeon Creek Road and along the road connecting the Washburn Campground to the San Simeon Creek Campground.
California State Parks says the purpose of the pile burns is to manage vegetation, reduce the dead and dying trees and reduce pests impacting the health of the Monterey pines.
Burning will only occur on permissive burn days.
