Santa Maria students churn out artwork for cash

Posted

The public had the opportunity Thursday to purchase thousands of pieces of artwork from young artists at Righetti High School in Santa Maria.

Everything from chalk art outside to paintings, photography, ceramic pieces and sculptures went on sale Thursday evening.

The students received real world experience by selling their work and retaining a portion of the profits. A portion of sales benefited the art department.

"They get to sell their artwork and display their artwork for the public and they are very proud of what they’ve done and we’re very proud of what they accomplished," said Elsa Carlson, the high school’s art teacher.

The sale runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the school’s gym.
