SLO DMV to be open on select Saturdays starting in June

Posted

The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will be opening some of its field offices on Saturdays starting in June. The San Luis Obispo office is one of them.

The office will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 16 and June 23, then the first and third Saturday of each month beginning in July.

Saturday appointments can be scheduled up to 90 days in advance using the DMV’s website or by calling 1-800-777-0133. Behind-the-wheel exams will not be available on Saturdays.

The goal is to ease wait times at the DMV offices. It’s not uncommon to see the line at the San Luis Obispo DMV extend out into the parking lot.

Part of the problem, according to the DMV, is due to changes that include implementing the new REAL ID Act and a new electronic driver’s license/ID card application.

To apply for a REAL ID, customers must visit a DMV field office.
