SLO Co. Supervisor District 2: Yet another incumbent takes the lead

UPDATE (12:50 a.m.) – The final election night update shows Gibson with 6,725 votes, Eckles with 3,802 votes and Sparks with 743 votes. Ballot counting will continue on Wednesday morning.


The race for San Luis Obispo County District 2 Supervisor is between three candidates, and yet another incumbent is taking the lead. 

incumbent Bruce Gibson is up against Patrick E.B. Sparks and Jeff Eckles. As of 11:30 p.m., 19 out of 27 precincts have reported results, with Gibson in the lead at 58 percent of the votes. 

Gibson has been a supervisor since 2007, Sparks is an attorney, and Eckles is a small business owner.

District 2 covers part of San Luis Obispo and stretches through Los Osos, Morro Bay, Cayucos, Cambria, and San Simeon.

If none of the candidates receives more than 50 percent of the total vote (after all precincts have submitted their reports) in the primary election, the two who top the results will square off in the November election.
