2 rescued from damaged sailboat near Morro Bay

Posted

Two people were rescued from a damaged sailboat this week outside Morro Bay, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard station in Morro Bay reports it received a radio call Wednesday reporting the boat had been knocked down about 120 miles off short around 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Radio equipment on the boat was reportedly damaged, so the two people on board, one of whom had several broken ribs from the knockdown, had to wait to call for help until they were closer to Morro Bay, officials said.

A rescue boat met up with the damaged sailboat and transferred the two people on board. The sailboat was then towed back to Morro Bay.

The crew members were taken to an ambulance waiting for them in Morro Bay and transferred to the hospital for treatment.
