Residents shaken after man caught on surveillance video peering into window

San Luis Obispo police are warning residents about a man who was caught on surveillance footage peeping into a San Luis Obispo apartment window.

The incident happened at the Watson Manor Apartment Complex in the 1200 block of Foothill Boulevard at around 11:30 p.m. Monday.

Police showed the student who lives in the apartment the Ring doorbell surveillance video.

"The blinds were drawn but there was a little crack in the blinds and the light was on in the room and it appeared he was looking into the room," said the woman who wished to remain anonymous.

She says she was in the living room but the fact that it was her room in which he was looking, is unsettling.

"Definitely uncomfortable to walk around at night and leave my apartment," she said.

The man had an unusual gait and was walking with one hand out the entire time.

San Luis Obispo police say this is a good reminder to lock your doors.

"A few times a month we get reports of someone prowling or peeping in the area," said Lt. John Bledsoe, San Luis Obispo Police Department.

Lt. Bledsoe says often times, these are people looking to steal from cars or homes.

He adds that surveillance footage has helped nab some of these criminals.

"The video footage that we get now is of high quality and more and more people are getting this feature put in their homes and in their businesses," he said.

If you recognize the man, you’re asked to call the police.

Police add to not forget to close your windows, especially when you’re not home.

Law enforcement also says it’s unclear if the man was attempting to steal the bikes outside the apartment.
