Kids learn about fire safety at Lompoc fire camp

Posted

Some kids are approaching the end of some important lessons about fire safety.

This year marks the 20th year in which Lompoc Firefighters have been offering Fire Camp for children between the ages of seven and ten.

The kids learn skills firefighters use everyday, including how to roll hoses, knocking out fires and how to repeal out of a second story window.

Firefighters also teach them skills they can use in how to escape from a fire and how to prevent fires.

"I’ve learned how to put out a grease fire," said Arthur Douglas. "Do not put water on it or else your house will burn down, and I also learned how to turn on the fire truck hose."

The camp finishes on Thursday with a bucket brigade.
