3 rescued after boat capsizes off Southern California coast

LOS ANGELES (AP) – The U.S. Coast Guard says crews have rescued three people who were treading water for nearly 90 minutes after their boat capsized off the Southern California coast.

Authorities say the three were rescued Friday evening about a mile north of Anacapa Island, northwest of Los Angeles, after their 17-foot recreational vessel capsized.

One passenger managed to make a 911 cellphone call Ventura County’s fire dispatchers, who relayed the message to the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard says the three people weren’t wearing life jackets. They were reached by boat and taken to a Coast Guard station in Oxnard for treatment.
