Locals hosted a fundraising event called One Small Step on Sunday to raise awareness for a rare disorder known as Prader-Willi Syndrome.

Prader-Willi Syndrome is a life-threatening medical disorder that creates hormone issues, intellectual disability, and a short stature. Behavior problems are common and worsened by what experts call an unrelenting physiological drive to eat.

The fundraising event was held at Atascadero Lake Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Attendees enjoyed a bounce house, face painting, and a one-mile walk.

All of the event’s proceeds go towards Prader-Willi research, according to organizers.
