Santa Maria Survey Helps With Street Repair

Posted

Santa Maria has begun to grade all its streets depending on their condition.

Pavement Engineering Inc. is surveying every street in the city and scoring them to show how urgently the street has to be repaired.

The hope is to have every street in Santa Maria above an 80 score, which is considered good in the pavement condition index.

The survey uses different types of methods to repair roads from a slurry seal, cape seal or chip seal.

"The program tells you what each road needs so we use the method that is most cost-effective out of those methods based on the data collected," said Steve Kahn Santa Maria City public works director.

After the survey is complete they will determine the cost-effective ways to maintain the roads.
