An English man running to raise money for sick children made an appearance in a superhero costume in Santa Maria Tuesday afternoon.

Jamie McDonald suffered from a rare spinal condition growing up, and since his recovery he wanted to give back to children who needed it, so he started his own charity.

He runs long distances to raise money for that charity that grants money to families who can’t afford treatment.

He started his run in Vancouver in April and zoomed from Grover Beach to Santa Maria Tuesday afternoon.

He’s hoping to get as far as he can before his visa runs out.

"This mission started out to give back to the hospital that helped me as a kid but now it’s about changing other kids lives and that’s what it’s really about for me; to run to each children’s hospital in every state that I run through and to raise (money) and try and change as many lives as we can," McDonald said.

He says he runs an average of 20 miles a day, sometimes even barefoot.
