Felony charge filed, bail increased for sex offender accused of touching girl in downtown SLO

A criminal charge of annoying or molesting a child under the age of 18 has been filed against the man accused of touching a young girl’s hair in a San Luis Obispo makeup store earlier this week.

The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office says Jonathan Oscar Davis, a registered sex offender, is scheduled to be arraigned on the felony charge Friday morning.

It carries a maximum sentence of three years, but the DA’s Office says Davis has a prior strike of residential burglary out of San Francisco, which doubles his maximum sentence to six years, if convicted.

Davis was arrested Monday in downtown San Luis Obispo after police say they received the report of him touching the girl’s hair at Sephora.

Jail logs show bail for Davis has increased from $5,000 to $100,000. The increase was reportedly requested by SLOPD.

Davis remained in custody late Thursday afternoon.
