CHP officers are out in full force looking for impaired drivers.
The maximum enforcement period runs until midnight on July 4.
Officers are on the lookout for drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The CHP says that driving impaired also includes some prescription medication.
More than 1,200 drivers were arrested on suspicion of DUI charges during last year’s enforcement period.
Other local law enforcement agencies are also stepping up enforcement.
