Pismo Beach fireworks show draws thousands of revelers

Posted

Fireworks awed and amazed the thousands of people who packed the sand at Pismo Beach Wednesday to celebrate Independence Day.

The City hosted its annual 4th of July show, which consisted this year of $25,000 worth of fireworks.

One Pismo Beach resident, who recently married a Romanian national, said this holiday carries a special importance.

“It’s huge, she just got her citizenship about two years ago, so I’m very proud of her,” said David Whitesteine of his wife, Roxanne. “I like the feel of the spirit, it feels like it came back this year."

City officials expected about 100,000 people to attend the fireworks show at Pismo Beach.

Many of the revelers, like Anna Beaudin, were visiting from out of town.

“I’m on a road trip down to LA we decided to stop in Pismo for the 4th of July,” said Beaudin.

For Janeal McMillan, the big day is all about spending time with family and enjoying food.

"We ate, cause that’s what you do, right?" said McMillan. "We had BBQ, shaved ice and a side of nachos and anything else.”

Food trucks selling corn on the cob, BBQ, snow cones and loaded nachos packed the pier.

Even for it being a Wednesday, organizers of the Pismo Beach fireworks event called it a big success.
