Pres. Trump promises farmers that trade fixes are in the works

President Donald Trump traded his signature red hat for green as he spoke Thursday in Iowa, displaying the words "Make Our Farmers Great Again."

President Trump hand-delivered his message in the Midwest, bringing news of a ceasefire in the trade war with Europe, even though it’s far from a done deal.

"We just opened up Europe to you farmers. You’re not going to be too angry with Trump, I can tell you this," Mr. Trump.

The president is working to reassure American farmers, many of them his supporters, hurt by retaliatory tariffs from other countries.

For some of them, the promise of $12 billion in emergency aid is not enough.

"It is just a short-term fix and it’s not by any means going to make us whole or make me whole as a producer," said soybean farmer Steve Fourez.

The White House is adamant that the emergency aid is not a bailout but a strategy.
