The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’ss Bomb squad secured several railroad torpedo signaling devices from a home in Santa Barbara Saturday.

Deputies said a resident in the 300 block of Old Mill Road was cleaning out old items from a storage shed, found a box labeled "explosive" and called the Sheriff’ Office for help.

When the bomb squad got there, they found several railroad torpedo signaling devices. The devices are small dynamite charges that used to be attached to railroads so that when a train went by, they would set off a loud bang to signal the conductor to stop.

Deputies said the devices aren’t typically used anymore and can be dangerous to handle.

The Bomb squad took the devices and will dispose of them safely.
