Major injuries suffered in wrong-way crash on Hwy 101 south of Nipomo

Two people were injured early Friday morning in a wrong-way crash on Highway 101 just south of Nipomo.

It happened in the northbound lanes about two miles south of Tefft St. just before 1:30 a.m.

According to the California Highway Patrol, 25-year-old Emmett Hill of Lompoc was driving southbound in the northbound lanes when he struck another vehicle head-on.

Hill reportedly suffered major injuries in the crash and had to be extricated from his vehicle. 

The other driver, a 49-year-old man from Lompoc, was able to get out of his vehicle on his own. He was reportedly treated for minor injuries at an area hospital.

The CHP says alcohol and/or drugs are believed to have played a role in this crash. Investigators are asking any witnesses to contact the CHP’s San Luis Obispo office at (805) 594-8700.
