Arroyo Grande movie theater gets green light to sell alcohol

The Arroyo Grande planning commission has approved a permit that will allow The Regal Arroyo Grande Stadium 10 to sell beer and wine.

Tuesday, the council voted to approve alcohol sales, but imposed restrictions.

Staff will have to be trained to provide alcohol sales, recognize and address any issues that may come along. They will also be prohibited from selling anymore than two alcoholic beverages to one person and staff would have to monitor theaters every 30 minutes.

Local police will be in charge of enforcing those rules.

The planning commission said alcohol sales will help the theater stay competitive and draw in new crowds because attendance has been declining, as people opt for in-home entertainment.

Residents have ten days to appeal the decision. If it is appealed, the issue will go to the city council for final approval.

If unopposed, alcohol sales could begin by the end of the year.
