Driver uninjured after hitting bear on Hwy 1 near Buellton

Posted

A bear died after being hit by a car on Highway 101 south of Buellton Monday morning.

The California Highway Patrol says it happened in the northbound lanes near three bridges at about 6 a.m.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured but the bear died, according to CHP.

Officers say while there are bears in the area, it is not common for them to be hit on the highway, with it only happening maybe once or twice a year.
