Wheel of semi-truck catches fire causing traffic delays in Carpinteria

Posted

Traffic delays in Carpinteria early Tuesday morning as fire crews try to put out a wheel fire on a semi-truck.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. California Highway Patrol received reports of a semi-truck wheel catching on fire near Via Real and Santa Ynez Avenue in Carpinteria.

It is not confirmed how exactly the fire started.

CHP says the trailer of the truck is filled with chlorine, and firefighters are taking extra precautions to make sure the fire does not spread.

The wheel fire started on a detour route due to construction on Northbound 101 from Bailard Avenue to Santa Monica Road.

California Highway Patrol is assisting in directing traffic on a different detour, and attempting to take traffic through the Casitas pass on ramp.

This is a developing story and will be updated when more information becomes available.
