Grover Beach man arrested twice, accused of child sex crimes

Posted

A Grover Beach man is out on bail after being arrested twice within a months time for alleged child sex crimes, according to police.

Authorities posing as a 15-year-old girl reportedly made contact with a man and arranged to meet up and have sex, according to Arroyo Grande Police Department Commander Shawn Cosgrove.

The department has a dedicated unit designed to seek out child predators.

Cosgrove says the suspect, identified as Brandon Robert Johnson, arrived at the designated meet-up spot in Arroyo Grande on July 20 and was taken into custody.

Following the 23-year-old’s arrest, police say they seized and conducted forensic examinations on electronic devices belonging to Johnson.

The examination revealed information having to do with child pornography, according to Cosgrove, who says authorities then served a search warrant on Johnson’s home to check the welfare of his children, ages 8 months and 10-years-old, and to seize additional electronic devices that could possibly contain child pornography.

Johnson was then arrested again on Aug. 18.

Cosgrove says the department’s investigation has been turned over to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office for review.

It was not immediately known if any charges had been filed against Johnson.

Jail logs Thursday showed he was not in custody at San Luis Obispo County Jail.
