The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department identified the woman who died after falling asleep at the wheel and crashing in Santa Maria.

Deputies say Jennifer Lopez, 37, of Santa Maria, was killed around 1:50 Saturday morning. It happened on northbound Highway 101 near Jonata Park Road.

The CHP says Lopez was driving at about 70 miles per hour when she fell asleep and started drifting off the roadway. Her car hit a construction sign. Investigators say she woke up from the impact and tried to move, but the car overturned and hit the center divider. Lopez was thrown from her car and died from her injuries.

The CHP does not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
