Allan Hancock College awarded its first degree in Theater Arts Tuesday.
The college created a new Associates Degree to offer students a chance to explore writing, directing, and acting in the theater, as well as give them a head start as they look at applying to other colleges.
Jessica Garcia was the first graduate of the program. "Theatre arts is something I feel connected to and it has helped me find my voice in so many ways," said Garcia. "I’m generally a very shy person, and this major has helped me feel more comfortable in my skin than I ever thought I would."
The new degree guarantees priority admission to the CSU system at junior standing.
