SLO City Council approves cannabis business zone ordinance

Posted

The San Luis Obispo City Council voted 5-0 Tuesday to approve an ordinance establishing "cannabis business zones."

The seven zones will be the only locations within the city limits where cannabis-related businesses will be allowed to operate. They would include manufacturing, distribution and retail businesses.

The zones include buffers that would prevent such businesses from being located within 1,000 feet of any school or playground, 600 feet from any daycare, and 300 feet from any residence.

These zones would only go into effect, and businesses allowed to operate, if city voters pass a measure on the November 2018 ballot to tax cannabis business activities.
