A woman was killed in a motorcycle crash Sunday near Paso Robles.

It happened shortly before 6 p.m. on Highway 46, west of Arbor Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, for an unknown reason, a Harley Davidson motorcycle headed eastbound drifted onto the right-hand shoulder of the highway, crashing into the back of a Nissan that was stopped on the side of the road. The motorcycle then slid into the path of another vehicle that was traveling westbound.

A 27-year-old woman from Porterville, who was riding on the back of the Harley, was ejected from the motorcycle and died from her injuries.

The motorcycle driver sustained major injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

The CHP is investigating the cause of the crash but says neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be factors in the collision and both riders were wearing their helmets at the time.
