Robocalls are on the rise.

A new report by First Orion Corp. shows scam calls have drastically surged from 3 percent to nearly 30 percent in the last year alone.

Researchers say, by next year, more than 44 percent of peoples’ incoming cell phone calls will be scams.

On the Central Coast, lawmakers say they’re also seeing an increase in scam calls.

The most active scam involves someone posing as an IRS agent while demanding money over the phone.

Another involves scammers posing as kidnappers, trying to extort people by claiming they’ve kidnapped a loved one.

Officials say, if you get a scam call, hang up immediately and report it.

People can also sign up for the "Do Not Call" registry with their mobile carrier to avoid robocalls.
