Emergency responders and fire crews from across Santa Barbara gathered at the Santa Barbara Airport Thursday for a joint active shooter training exercise.

The purpose of the training was to give responders an opportunity to practice and execute what they’ve learned in prior training in response to active shooter and mass murder incidents.

One person posed as a suspect at-large, who acted out an active shooter incident within the airport terminal. Law enforcement teams had to find and neutralize the threat as well establish a command center and evacuate victims.

Responders said the exercise allowed them to practice setting up multiple contact points to maximize rapid assessment and treatment.
