The Santa Maria Police Department hosted its inaugural trunk-or-treat program for families Tuesday.
Police officers decorated their trunks and filled them with candy, in an effort to provide kids with a safe place to trick-or-treat.

Parents were invited to bring their kids in their best costumes.
“This is our warm up. This is our practice, and I think they got plenty of sugar,” said Kaitlin Evans, who lives in Santa Maria.
“This was super fun, and it’s awesome. I got plenty of candy like my mom said, and it’s just super fun so far,” said 8-year-old Braylon Evans.

The event was planned with safety in mind.
Kids were also able to get their pictures taken next to their favorite police vehicles, including motorcycles and patrol vehicles.
