Gas prices are dropping just in time for Thanksgiving.
The relief comes after a four-year high in October. The national average was almost $3 per gallon at that time, but now it’s $2.66 for the average gallon of regular gas.
On the Central Coast, prices are higher as usual.
According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in San Luis Obispo County was $3.80 as of Thursday. The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Santa Barbara County was $3.71. That’s still a decrease compared to last month when the average price was $3.92 in San Luis Obispo County and $3.87 in Santa Barbara County.
The statewide average was $3.67 as of Thursday.
Experts say gas prices are lower right now because of a dramatic drop in oil prices over the last few weeks. Ample global supplies of petroleum, which is refined into gasoline, have played a key role in delivering savings for consumers.
