Santa Maria to accept nominees for Hometown Heroes program

Posted

The City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department and the American Legion will soon accept nominees for the Hometown Heroes program.

It was created to honor those who serve or have served in the military. The honorees will have their name, photograph and armed service information displayed on a banner from streetlights on College Drive between Betteravia and McCoy Street.

The banners will hang for approximately six months, and nominations will be accepted from January through June of 2019.

Eligible candidates include active duty, retired, honorably discharged or those who gave their lives in action in one of the branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. This includes the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.

The service member must either be or have been a Santa Maria resident or have immediate family living or working in the city.
