The Los Angeles Police Department is looking for any information regarding suspects involved in the shooting of 21-year-old Victor McElhaney.

McElhaney was shot and killed just after midnight Sunday near the corner of Maple Avenue and Adams Boulevard in Los Angeles. He was the son of Oakland city councilwoman Lynette Gibson McElhaney.

“It is with the utmost sadness that I share with you the tragic news that my son, Victor McElhaney, was slain last night in a senseless act of violence,” said the councilwoman after the slaying.

Investigators say that at about 12:30 a.m. March 11, McElhaney and his friends left a market near USC and were robbed by a group of men in a vehicle. Following a confrontation, one of the men shot McElhaney.

The suspects are described as three or four male Hispanics, all approximately in their 20’s. Most are described as 5 feet 10 inches tall and one is noted as being 5 feet 6 inches. They fled the scene in a newer model, dark colored sedan.

Anyone with information on the homicide is asked to call LAPD’s Southwest Division at (213) 485-2582. Tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
