Labrador retrievers are once again the most popular breed among dog lovers, according to the American Kennel Club, the country’s oldest such registry.
Labrador retrievers took the top spot for the 28th consecutive year.
Fans credit the lab’s amiable nature and aptitude in many canine roles from family pet to service dog.
German shepherds are the second most popular breed followed by golden retrievers, French bulldogs, and bulldogs.
Rounding out the top ten are the beagle, poodle, rottweiler, German shorthaired pointer, and Yorkshire terrier.
The rankings reflect a breed’s prevalence among the more than 580,000 puppies and other purebred dogs newly registered in 2018.
