If you’re running low on tomatoes, you can stock up on tomato plants at Cal Poly’s Tomato Spectacular this weekend.
The popular plant sale kicked off today at the Horticulture unit near the Cal Poly plant shop. Students in the college of agriculture, food, and environmental sciences grew 5,000 tomato plants from seed.
The tomato sale is a big hit every year, partially because the students offer 72 different varieties of tomatoes.
“We get people lined up, like an hour before the sale starts and they’re waiting for their specific variety of tomato that they can only get here,” said Matt Slaymaker, a Cal Poly horticulture student.
All plants are $7, or you can buy five plants for $30. The horticulture unit is located on Via Carta Road off Highland Drive.
