Hundreds of people are volunteering to beautify Santa Maria on Saturday.
Serve Santa Maria brings people together from different parts of the community to work on clean-up projects in the area.
This year volunteers will fix up the landscape at Temple Beth El to spread a message of kindness in light of recent shootings at Jewish temples throughout the country.

“One park at a time, one school at a time, one house of worship at a time, and one private residence at a time,” Serve Santa Maria Coordinator Pastor Carl Nielsen said. “We are helping people who find themselves in a bind we’re helping our schools we’re helping our parks we’ve painted churches we’re helping Temple Beth El, we’re making a difference.”
The event has been going on since 2010.
Some projects throughout the year include painting churches, working on homes and planting trees in the parks.
Anyone interested in lending a hand can check in at the Abel Maldonado Community Center Saturday between 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
