A Cambria school’s cybersecurity team received some major recognition Wednesday for their proficient computer skills.

A large trophy was awarded to Coast Union High School’s cybersecurity team.

They beat out more than 160 local students in the region’s first California Mayor Cup Competition back in February.

Cambria’s team took first place in the competition, which engages middle and high school students in a real-life cybersecurity threat scenario.

“It’s amazing. I feel like our community has been under-represented in the county and just being able to prove our worth here at Cambria is really amazing,” said Luis Plascencia, a senior at Coast Union High School.

The trophy will be on display at the Chamber of Commerce office through the fall of 2020.

It will then move to the next town that wins the competition.
