Morro Bay community members are looking to better the city’s tourism industry.
A workshop was held Thursday to discuss the Tourism Business Improvement District funding.
Currently, hotels and motels are the only businesses putting funding into the district.
City leaders are hoping to expand the funding by asking owners of vacation rentals and RV park owners to participate.
These owners discussed why they would want to participate and also asked how they will benefit during Thursday’s meeting.
“The hotels and motels want vacation rentals and RV parks to participate, but they don’t want it to be an adversarial relationship. I think everyone recognizes tourism is really important, and if we work together, we are in a much better position than if we are not,” said Scott Collins, Morro Bay City Manager.
There will be more outreach meetings in the coming months.
A final decision is expected closer to the end of the year.
