The California Highway Patrol says a 26-year-old man was killed in a crash on Highway 101 Wednesday night in Paso Robles.
It happened at about 9:15 p.m. in the northbound lanes just south of the Spring Street offramp.
The CHP is not releasing additional information about the driver at this time pending notification of his family but officers at the scene did tell KSBY he was the only one in the vehicle.
He was reportedly ejected when the SUV went off the highway and onto the railroad tracks below. He died at the scene.
The crash caused a major traffic backup in the area while emergency crews were on scene.
The Spring Street offramp was back open by 1 a.m.
