Firefighters in Gilroy are being monitored after treating a person Thursday who later tested positive for coronavirus, according to officials. It's the city's first reported coronavirus case.

NBC Bay Area is reporting that the City of Gilroy is evaluating all city programs and public events to ensure they comply with health recommendations from the Santa Clara County Department of Public Heath and the CDC.

The Gilroy firefighters have not shown coronavirus symptoms and have returned to work. Police said they will be monitored on a daily basis for the next two weeks.

According to NBC Bay Area, the firefighters went on a medical call on Thursday for a man experiencing chest pains. The patient was taken to an area hospital in San Jose for treatment where he was later confirmed to have the Novel coronavirus.

Police said the Gilroy firefighters took measures to minimize potential exposure before treating that patient, but the Gilroy Fire Department is working closely with state and federal health officials to monitor the situation.
