17 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Santa Barbara Co.; total now 260

Santa Barbara County reported 17 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the total cases in the county to 260 as of April 10.

Health Officer Dr. Henning Ansorg says 40 patients are in the hospital. Eighteen of those patients are in the ICU.

Dr. Ansorg says 122 people are recovering at home, while 90 have fully recovered. The health department is awaiting updates on six additional patients.

Two people in Santa Barbara County have died from COVID-19.

Dr. Ansorg says the new cases include six cases at the federal prison in Lompoc. Ten inmates are currently hospitalized, including two who are in the ICU. At least one prison staff member has also reportedly been hospitalized.

A total of 45 inmates and 14 staff members at the prison have been confirmed positive with coronavirus.

Dr. Ansorg says the county is working with the prison and its medical team to stem the outbreak at the prison.
