Santa Barbara County reported 20 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 88.
Health Officer Dr. Henning Ansorg said the new patients range in age from their teens to over the age of 70.
Nine of the new cases are in Santa Maria, one is in Orcutt, and six are in other areas of northern Santa Barbara County, including Guadalupe. Three patients are in the Lompoc area and one is in Santa Barbara.
Of the 88 cases in Santa Barbara County, 49 are recovering at home, 19 have fully recovered, and 14 are in the hospital. Ten of the hospitalized patients are in intensive care.
Dr. Ansorg said the increase in numbers is very typical for a virus that spreads quickly from person to person. He said it's an indicator of how infectious the virus is and he encouraged people to strictly adhere to social distancing guidelines.
