The Better Business Bureau says scam calls to local businesses are "revving up" during the coronavirus pandemic.

The organization says some businesses have reported receiving a recorded phone call from "Tom with Small Business Lending" regarding an "open account with us from last year."

The caller reportedly says, "Your company has been pre-approved for up to $150,000 for working capital" and asks for a call back to 888-520-8274.

Better Business Bureau of the Tri-Counties president Rick Copelan says this is a scam and he's cautioning local businesses to be extra-vigilant right now.

"This is a very timely pitch to make right now, given the current financial crisis," Copelan said.
