An inmate at the California Men’s Colony died last week from what officials say appear to be complications related to COVID-19.
The inmate was reportedly hospitalized at the time of their death on Oct. 22 and is the second CMC inmate to die from reported COVID-19 complications.
To date, 304 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed among CMC inmates, according to the CDCR, but only two remain active.
Six people were reportedly released with active cases and two deaths have been reported.
Seventy-eight staff cases have been reported and CDCR says 53 people have since returned to work.
Since the pandemic began, 15,380 inmates within the CDCR system tested positive for COVID-19. Reports show 198 of those cases were discovered within the last two weeks.
