SLO County adds 1 new coronavirus case, bringing total to 166

San Luis Obispo County health officials are reporting one new case of the coronavirus Sunday, bringing the total number of cases in the county up to 166.

Data from the San Luis Obispo County Public Health Department show nearly 72 percent of COVID-19 patients in the county has fully recovered.

According to local health officials, out of the 166 cases, there are 42 patients recovering at home and three recovering in the hospital, one of whom is in the intensive care unit. The county has reported one death as a result of the virus.

The San Luis Obispo County Public Health Department says it has conducted 1,018 coronavirus tests, 54 of which came back with a positive result.

111 positive cases have been detected at private labs, which have conducted a total of 1,161 coronavirus tests, according to the county public health department.

Health officials say 59 of the 166 positive cases were transmitted through contact with a known positive case, 50 were through recent travel outside of the county and 54 were acquired through community spread. They are currently investigating the mode of transmission for two cases.

Local health officials are urging residents to avoid group gatherings during the statewide and local shelter-at-home order after reports of large crowds at local beaches and parks sparked concerns over the weekend.
