Firefighter suffers severe chest injuries after being hit by vehicle

A firefighter battling the Woolsey Fire in Southern California is suffering from severe chest injuries after being hit by a vehicle.

The firefighter is a man from Washington in his 40s. According to California Highway Patrol, the man was hit by a vehicle near Deer Creek on Pacific Coast Highway. He was sent to California from his home station in South Kitsap Fire Department to assist in helping out with fighting the Woolsey Fire.

“Our focus at this time is on the firefighter, his family, our fire district and our community,” said the South Kitsap Fire Department in a statement.

The firefighter was airlifted to Los Robles Medical Center in Thousand Oaks with non-life threatening injuries.
