Eleven additional inmates at the Santa Barbara County Jail have tested positive for COVID-19, officials said.

In a press release, Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office officials said 130 inmates were tested for the novel virus after one inmate tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, August 13th.

According to authorities, the inmate who was tested Thursday had been housed adjacent to a previously infected cohort in a single cell and was asymptomatic prior to testing.

Of the 130 additional inmates in the surrounding units were tested, 10 more positive cases were found, with 120 inmates testing negative Saturday, according to sheriff's deputies.

To date, the total number of 36 inmates who have been housed at the Main Jail has tested positive for the coronavirus, according to officials.

The COVID-19 positive inmates will be medically monitored while contract tracing and testing continue.
