Cal Poly has come out on top for California campuses with the highest number of new student voter registrations.

According to the Secretary of State’s website, the San Luis Obispo campus had 3,178 new registered voters. CSU Fullerton came in second with 2,627 and UCSB was in third with 1,857.

When broken down into individual categories, Cal Poly was first for CSUs and UCSB was on top for UCs.

It was all part of the California University and College Ballot Bowl, a challenge from Aug. 20 to Oct. 22 to encourage student voter registration on college campuses.

By the end of October, Cal Poly had 14,000 students already registered to vote, representing about 10 percent of registered voters in San Luis Obispo County.

An awards ceremony for the Ballot Bowl is tentatively set for next week.
