The Salvation Army and the Santa Maria Advisory Board kicked off the annual Red Kettle season with a special luncheon on Thursday to get into the giving spirit.

This year’s campaign is called #FightForGood, and the Salvation Army plans to focus on bringing Christmas to those who have lost everything in natural or personal disasters.

Red kettles and bell-ringing volunteers will be spread out in various locations throughout Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties for people to generously give cash or change during the holiday season. The money donated will go to more than 50 social centers of the Salvation Army placed throughout the Southern California area.

The Salvation Army in Southern California has provided more than 1.3 million meals, 207,000 gifts and almost 419,000 shelter hours through donations.
